Roles and Responsibilities
As a volunteer you will help us organise and run events that promote our charity and raise funds for The Watercress Way. Your skills and experience will make a real difference, and you will be part of a small, passionate, and friendly team.
About The Watercress Way
The Watercress Way trail is a waymarked circular route spanning approximately 27 miles. It utilizes existing rights of way between Alresford, Kings Worthy, and Sutton Scotney, located in the Northeast of Winchester. Some sections of the trail are also accessible for cyclists, horse riders, and wheelchair users.
The trail comprises sections of two old railways, namely the Watercress Line and the Didcot-Newbury-Southampton Railway. These railways were closed in 1963 and 1973, respectively, but efforts are being made to make sections of the tracks accessible once again.
The Watercress Way charity was formed in 2016 to raise public awareness and promote the use of these old tracks. This trail is noteworthy for linking the old railways with historic livestock droves and traversing through the picturesque rolling chalk Hampshire downland. It also follows the renowned Rivers Itchen, Arle, and Dever, adding to its appeal.
The main trail offers various shorter routes for those who prefer a less challenging walk.
About The Role
You will be responsible for planning and executing various events and activities to engage our supporters and the public. This includes promoting events in the local area, managing resources and suppliers, overseeing activities, and providing a warm welcome to attendees.
Requirements
Excellent communication and organisational skills
A friendly and approachable manner, and the ability to make the walk a "social occasion"
Reliability and punctuality
Non-judgmental attitude and understanding of the needs of others
Some knowledge of their local area
You must also have access to a computer and the internet
