Walk Leader/Supporter Volunteer
Roles and Responsibilities
Are you passionate about walking and exploring the outdoors? Do you enjoy encouraging and motivating others to get active and experience the benefits of being in nature? If so, The Watercress Way, are currently seeking enthusiastic and reliable volunteers to join our team as Walk Leaders and Walk Supporters.
About The Role
As a volunteer Walk Leader or Supporter, you will play a key role in helping us to organise and facilitate a series of planned local walks in and around the River Arle in Alresford. This will involve a range of tasks, including leading or assisting individual walks, either long or short, and ensuring the overall safety of the group. You will also be responsible for researching, planning and risk assessing suitable routes where necessary.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who appreciates the ecology and heritage of our chalk streams and can encourage others to participate and enjoy walking within their own physical capabilities. We provide training on how to lead a walk as well as equipment to help you on the day. As a Walk Leader or Supporter, you will have the chance to meet new people, explore the local area, and enjoy the many benefits of walking.
Requirements:
A passion for walking and the benefits associated with it
Good communication and organisational skills
A friendly and approachable manner, and the ability to make the walk a "social occasion"
Reliability and punctuality
Non-judgmental attitude and understanding of the needs of others
Some knowledge of their local area
What's in it for you
Volunteering with us is an excellent opportunity to meet like-minded people, develop new skills, gain valuable experience and there will be opportunities to get involved with social events.
Training is required for this role and all volunteers will need to attend a training course for volunteer Walk Leaders.
