3 Benches and a Pub Quiz
Sunday 18 November 2018 was a very busy day for The Watercress Way volunteers.Trustees spent the day installing 3 benches on the Martyr Worthy section of the disused line and then hosted a quiz at The Plough in the evening!BenchesThe Watercress Way trustees are delighted to announce the installation of our first 3 sleeper benches.Made from locally sourced green oak , with a grant from Itchen Valley Parish Council, they provide welcome resting places along the path. Many passers by thanked us for our efforts and welcomed the opportunity the benches give to stop a while.Perhaps with a snack or just to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the lost 7 miles of the old Mid Hants Watercress Line whilst imagining the ghosts of thundering trains from before 1973.Jackie Porter, Chairman of Trustees said, “The sunshine inspired us to complete the task ahead of time, installing three benches in one day under the supervision of Jim and Bruce. The benches are heavy, and it took several of us to dig the holes and lower each bench into position!Once cemented into position, the ground was restored to the original state.hope you’ll agree that these weathered oak seats look like they have been there for years!”
